Up for auction is a vial of monodispersed silica or silicon dioxide microspheres with nominal diameters micron in dry form 250 mg. They are prepared by emulsion polymerization and cleaned thoroughly by centrifugation. The dry powder can be dispensed in any solution of your choice by conventional mixing methods such as vortex or ultrasonication. Unlike polystyrene beads, silica particles will not dessolved in organic solvents such as acetone or toluene. They can be dissoved in alkaline solutions and dissolution is accelated by heating. Monodispersed silica microspheres can be used as removable template for preparation of photo crystals.
